About the Rodeo

What I didn't like? Calf roping. What I liked? Barrel racing; Bull riding and I think it's because a lot of the time, the bull won!!

Kitsap County Fair

I like the county fair feel here. Returning to Kitsap County has grounded me. This day at the fair admission was free if you got there before noon. Many of the families from our church in the area took advantage of the freebie--lucky for me because I lost Trishana in the crowds. She met up with one of my friends who called Thelesa for my cell phone number and was able to contact me and have me meet them at the fire truck situated outside President's Hall. This collage of pictures is a summary of our day here. I wish things weren't so expensive, though, and this fair reminds me of the one in our little town of Wahiawa back in the 50's and 60's. I don't know how my parents afforded for us to go, and every once in awhile I want to eat Hawai'i carnival food--a bowl of saimin with sticks of teriyaki beef, corn on the cob and cotton candy!

I bet it's a drag for a kid to tag along through all of the vendors and the animals; looking at the quilt displays and photo art and blue ribbons when all they really wanna do is get on the rides--but Trishana was a real trooper with me for that!

Our school (I mua Kamehameha!) used to put on a carnival each year as a fundraiser and I remember not being a huge fan of the rides--getting sick after getting off the swings, tweaking my neck on the Tilt-a-Whirl, and feeling my stomach coming up from my gut on the ferris wheel. These days I realize I still want to TRY by taking dramamine...but alas I come away with that sic-to-my-stomach feeling and a huge headache with the final relief of puking! One thing I still really love is a good old roller coaster ride! Hope I can do the Puyallup next month for my annual coasting ride and elephant ear!

Kapua, this one's for you!!

Honu and Kekoa are here from Maui to visit with Kamalani via the Motel 8 in Federal Way. I Don't even know the name of the restaurant on Procter, in Tacoma...but we'd been playing Jun ken po using taco, burrito and tortilla in the car...and everyone was hungry so we found this place...would you believe it's run by a Filipino guy from Maui who was in the Army and got out in Tacoma; married to a Mexican gal...the food is better than ...well... best Mexican food I've had! This is tacos rancheros with shredded beef...so I blew my carbs (and salt)---but it wasn't greasy. I'm jogging today??...well, as soon as my walk partner calls...she's just back from vacation a la Belize and SLC/Provo!! Wake up Judy!!
